John Wyon Burrow, FBA (4 June 1935 in Southsea – 3 November 2009 in Witney, Oxfordshire) [1] was an English historian of intellectual history. [2] His published works include assessments of the Whig interpretation of history and of historiography generally.

Jul 19, 2023 · John Burrow, who taught at Sussex from 1969 to 1995, died of cancer on 3 November [2009] at his home in Witney, Oxfordshire. Sussex was the first university in this country to offer degrees in intellectual history, and John was the first to occupy the chair in this branch of history created for him in 1981.
