Ford has averted a potential strike at its Dearborn Tool and Die plant after reaching a tentative agreement with the UAW Local 600.

The United Auto Workers union said on Wednesday its members representing Ford's tool and die unit in the River Rouge Complex reached a tentative agreement with the company, one day ahead of its strike deadline.

The UAW had set a deadline of Thursday to go on strike, but the tentative agreement the union says sets "a new standard" heads that off.

Ford's Rouge Complex near Detroit, which employs about 6,000 workers, has more than 500 workers in the tool and die unit, according to the union.

The UAW Local 600's Tool & Die Unit at the Rouge Complex announced it has reached a tentative agreement with Ford Motor Company. The roughly 500 UAW members at the Dearborn facility will hold a ratification vote in the next few days after reviewing the agreement.
