MONTOMGERY COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - A localized State of Emergency was declared Friday afternoon in Montgomery County. The move comes amid anticipated flooding throughout the area due to Hurricane Helene.

Montgomery County is preparing for Hurricane Helene. Around noon on September 27, a local state of emergency was issued by Montgomery County due to Hurricane Helene. As of right now, there are no immediate weather-related emergencies and residents are advised to prepare.

Governor Andy Beshear announced on social media that four counties have verbally declared a state of emergency due to the remnants of Helene hitting Kentucky.

Spartanburg County officials have declared a State of Emergency on Friday. County officials said the entire county has unmet needs, however, emergency services must address life safety issues first. Officials are asking everyone to not call 911 for non-critical incidents.

Giles County has announced that it also has entered a state of emergency because of the impacts of Hurricane Helene. Citizens are asked to prepare for flooding and other severe weather and are encouraged to voluntarily evacuate in flood prone areas.

In a post on X, Beshear said Breathitt, Clark, Lee, and Letcher counties and the city of Winchester have verbally declared the emergency.
