(WLNE) — Mayor Brett Smiley and Colonel Oscar Perez announced today that 22 individuals were issued arrest warrants following an investigation into the organized possession and distribution of illegal drugs at Kennedy Plaza.

Providence Police on Monday said that 22 individuals were arrested for illegal drug sales in Kennedy Plaza. Just over one year ago, Providence Police made a nearly identical announcement of 19 arrests in a drug sweep.

Most of the defendants are from Providence and on probation for previous arrests, and 14 of them having "felony/violent crime" convictions.
