Shares of Chegg dropped after the company said it’s conducting a review of the business and exploring alternatives including a sale or taking it private as the provider of individualized learning support to students keeps losing subscribers to AI-enabled rivals.

Chegg Inc. is weighing “strategic alternatives” for its business, saying that traffic to its web-based education platform has been decimated following Google’s launch of an artificial intelligence-powered summary tool.

The company called Chegg added that Google is coercing publishers to let it use the information for AI overviews, leading to fewer site visitors.
