OURAY COUNTY, Colo. — Colorado's Million Dollar Highway was closed Wednesday morning after a boulder fell onto the road. U.S. 550 Red Mountain Pass was closed between Silverton and Ouray at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, about 30 minutes after a rockfall was reported approximately two miles south of Ouray.

A rock slide early Wednesday morning forced the closure of US 550, Red Mountain Pass, two miles south of Ouray. The route from Silverton and Ouray was closed for eight hours. Crews began to clean up the debris at first light on Wednesday.

U.S. 550 Red Mountain Pass, the summit of the Millon Dollar Highway in southwest Colorado, will be closed for an extended period of time. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, a rockfall occurred at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Due to the boulder’s size, crews will have to downsize the rock in order to remove it from the highway.
